Axel Battista joined NCSSM in October 2023 as a Community Coordinator for the Durham campus. He was previously a high school English teacher in Alamance, Burlington, and Guilford counties, and a co-advisor of both schools’ GSA/LGBTQ+ student organizations. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English and secondary education at UNC-Greensboro. In his free time, Axel loves reading, playing video games, journaling and collecting stationary, and watching as many movies as possible. As a Community Coordinator, Axel strives to create a safe and welcoming environment for students to express themselves, explore themselves and their communities, and prosper as academics and professionals.
