Attend a Presentation in Your Area
Admissions representatives will conduct presentations across the state of North Carolina from September to December. Use this link to see if your county will host a presentation this fall. To see your admissions representative, use the map above to click on your county.
Middle and High School Administrators:
Request an admissions presentation for your students by clicking here. This request form is for school groups and community-based organizations only. Individuals can request information by signing up for our mailing list.
Attend an Open House
NCSSM will host two Open House events for 9th and 10th grade students and one Middle School Open House for 6th-8th graders. Open Houses serve as an opportunity for prospective applicants and families to hear information about the institution, the programs we offer, and the application process, and take a tour of campus.
Registration has closed for both the NCSSM-Durham and NCSSM-Morganton high school open houses. We are at full-capacity, therefore we cannot register additional guests. We encourage families to register for a campus tour.

Take a Campus Tour
Tours are offered Tuesdays through Fridays on normal school days. Find more information about tours of our Durham and Morganton campuses here.
Please submit your tour request two weeks in advance of your desired tour date to ensure tour availability.
Watch an Admissions Webinar
These webinars are designed to give you an opportunity to learn more about NCSSM, the various programs we offer, and the application process without having to travel to our campus. All webinars take place on Thursdays at 6 p.m. unless otherwise specified.
To participate in a webinar, you must register for it. Registration is available up to one month before each webinar. After you have registered for the webinar, the webinar link will be provided a week before the event. Space is limited, so we recommend registering early! Video recordings for each webinar are available below after the event.
Wondering who your Admissions Representative is for your county? Applicants for the Class of 2026 are invited to view the pre-recorded message from each of the Office of Admissions representatives and gain information about the counties they cover. Registration for this event is not required.
NCSSM is one school with many options. Participants will gain insight into NCSSM Residential, Online, and Summer programs available for students across the state of North Carolina. In addition, we will discuss some of the requirements for submitting an application.
An important part of applying to NCSSM is writing your application essays. In this webinar, we will discuss the essay questions that are found on the application, how they fit into the overall selection process, as well as some tips on how to write powerful essays that help you stand out!

In Summer Ventures, you’ll be immersed in STEM research, working with university faculty throughout the four-week program. Be part of a community with peers from around the state as you engage in research and enrichment on a college campus. Want to learn more about the day in the life of a Summer Ventures student? Standardized Testing (SAT and/or ACT) Waived
For the Class of 2026, the UNC System Board of Governors extends the current waiver for standardized testing (SAT and/or ACT) for applicants applying for admissions to all UNC campuses, which include the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics.
NCSSM Math Assessment (Residential Applicants)
- Applicants for the Class of 2026 who apply to NCSSM residential campuses (Durham and/or Morganton) are required to take the NCSSM Math Assessment as part of their application.
- Applicants will register in their Blackbaud account to take the NCSSM Math Assessment on one of the following dates:

- Saturday, February 10, 2024
- Saturday, February 17, 2024
- NCSSM-Morganton
- Saturday, February 10, 2024
- Saturday, February 17, 2024

NOTE: Applicants will receive information about registering for one of the assessment dates once the CFNC application process closes on January 5, 2024.
Discovery Day (Online Applicants)
The sessions are for applicants who only submit an application for the Online program or select the Online program as their first preference. Discovery Days are hosted virtually using Zoom. Registration links will be sent to applicants after the CFNC application process closes on January 5, 2024.
