Reilly Milburn

Reilly Milburn joined NCSSM in 2025 as Physics Lab Manager on our Durham campus, where he supports instruction in physics. Originally from Huntersville, North Carolina, he attended Haverford College in Pennsylvania, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in physics and astronomy. It was at Haverford that Reilly discovered his passion for observational astronomy and public outreach, making use of the Strawbridge Observatory. Reilly returned to NC for graduate school to earn a doctorate in physics and astronomy from UNC-Chapel Hill. At UNC, he primarily studied young exoplanetary systems using optical telescopes to search for signatures of atmospheric evaporation. During his time at UNC, Reilly was heavily involved in outreach efforts. He worked with local schools, museums, libraries, and cafés to bring physics and astronomy education to a wider population. In his free time, Reilly enjoys film photography and playing with his band around town.
