Lauren Wagner ’03 returned to NCSSM in August 2022 as an Instructor of Biology. She has taught students from kindergarten to the graduate level and has received awards for her teaching and research. Lauren particularly enjoys research mentorship and is passionate about facilitating students’ ownership of their learning. Lauren received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Carleton College, where she conducted genetics research on mitochondrial aging in yeast and population diversity in the endangered Eastern indigo snake. After college, she was a research fellow at the National Institutes of Health in the Genetics and Developmental Biology Center. For graduate school, she moved to the beautiful Bay Area, where she completed her doctorate in chemistry (chemical biology) at the University of California, Berkeley in the lab of Carolyn Bertozzi, 2022 Nobel laureate in Chemistry. She has published research in JACS, Molecular Cell, and PNAS. She enjoys gardening, hiking, and exploring with her partner and two young children.
