Suzanne Gavenus joined NCSSM in August 2022 as Director of Counseling and Wellness on our Morganton campus. She managed the Naviance implementation in Morganton, served as a co-facilitator for the 2022 Strategic Plan Action Team #3, and is a member of the Website Advisory Committee. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 30 years of clinical experience in psychiatric hospitals, community outpatient clinics, private practice, wilderness programs, and university and public school settings. Before coming to NCSSM-Morganton, she worked as the Student Support and Transition Specialist at Buncombe County Schools. She provided district-wide professional development in College and Career Readiness and Social Emotional Learning programs, training and compliance oversight for the district’s Section 504 Program, and managed the district-wide implementation of Naviance. As a facilitator for GoAlliance Academy through NCDPI, she taught College and Career Readiness courses to school counselors, career development coordinators, and college access professionals.

Suzanne is passionate about nurturing relationships, team building, empowering others, and supporting students’ academic and wellness goals. She and her husband have three adult children, two of whom graduated from NCSSM-Durham. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, walking, hiking, yoga, live music and theater, and traveling.
