Ying-Hua Tsai joined NCSSM in August 2023 as an Instructor of Chinese on our Morganton campus. She was born and raised in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Before joining NCSSM, she most recently served as lead lecturer for Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages’ summer program for United States government. She previously taught at several universities in North America including at the University of British Columbia and at Harvard University, where she received the Harvard University Certificate of Distinction in Teaching three times and the Harvard Beijing Academy Teaching Excellence Award. She has experience teaching both heritage and non-heritage Chinese language learners of all levels and has taught Chinese to individuals from all around the world in a variety of settings including in China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Canada, and the United States. Ying-Hua earned her bachelor’s degree in teaching Chinese as a second language at Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages, and her master’s degree in linguistics and applied linguistics at Beijing Language and Culture University. She is passionate about teaching, learning and exploring new cultures, and also enjoys traveling, cooking and hiking.
