Carolina Perez Guerrero is a passionate and dedicated educator who finds joy in teaching and mentoring musicians of all ages. Her teaching journey has taken her from middle and high school band rooms in Union and Randolph counties (NC) to the collegiate level as Assistant Director of the Duke University Wind Symphony. Since 2020, she has served as Instructor of Music at NCSSM-Durham, where she conducts the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Pit Orchestra, oversees the Pep Band, and teaches courses in music theory. Over the years, her bands have consistently earned the highest ratings at adjudicated events, and many of her students have achieved county, regional, and state honors. A National Board Certified Teacher, Carolina was named a 2023 Morehead-Cain Impact Educator. Her leadership extends beyond the classroom as a frequent guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator for honor bands, summer camps, and marching band festivals across North Carolina. She currently serves as President of the North Carolina Music Educators Association and Chair-elect of the Central District Bandmasters Association. Carolina holds a master’s degree in instrumental conducting and a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. As a musician, she performs as a solo cornetist with the Triangle Brass Band and has loved performing with the World Adult Wind Orchestra Project in Schladming, Austria. When she’s not making music, she enjoys traveling, hiking, playing board games, and solving escape rooms. She lives in Morrisville with her husband Tony and their sixty-pound “lapdog,” Elli.
