Meredith Murphy joined the NCSSM faculty in 2008. She has taught an array of humanities courses, including American Studies, Film Studies, and more recently AI in Science Fiction. In Mini-Term, January Term, and summer programs, Meredith enjoys facilitating courses on topics ranging from zombies to presidents to food science. She credits her passion for teaching in the humanities to the experiences she had as an NCSSM student as well as to the students and colleagues with whom she has had the privilege to collaborate. As a faculty member, Meredith has embraced a variety of roles on campus, including Mini-Term Coordinator, Faculty Senate Secretary, convener for her discipline, the coordinator of the Humanities Film Series, Course Registration Guide, and now Humanities Department Chair. She has also worked on multiple outreach projects related to social studies curricula, including work on behalf of the College Board, the National Humanities Center, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, and NCDPI.
