Spanish instructor Fiona Gillespie holds both a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and a Master of Arts in teaching from UNC-Chapel Hill as well as a Master of Arts in romance studies from Duke University. Prior to joining NCSSM, Fiona taught for five years in the Durham Public Schools’ Two-Way Language Immersion Program, where she taught a bilingual third grade class. While she loves teaching very young language learners, she is excited to be teaching high school students at NCSSM where she teaches Intermediate Spanish. In the past, she has taught all levels of language classes from survival English to Advanced Placement French Literature. Fiona has had the opportunity to work with a very diverse group of students in many different contexts, from farmworkers in eastern North Carolina to high school students in the Triangle, Mexico and Ireland as well as college students at Duke and adults seeking to improve job skills in Spain.
