Amber E. Smith, Instructor of Mathematics, joined NCSSM in 2018. She is originally from Durham County, but grew up in Pasquotank County, located in northeastern North Carolina. Amber attended NCSSM, and afterwards continued her education at North Carolina Central University, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in applied mathematics, subsequently earning her Ph.D. in mathematics education from N.C. State University. Prior to joining NCSSM, she was an instructor of mathematics at Vance-Granville Community College, as well as an adjunct instructor at Durham Technical Community College and Shaw University. At NCSSM, she has taught Precalculus, Calculus, and Foundations of Data Science for the residential program. She has also taught Discrete and Honors Data Science for NCSSM Connect. In her free time, Amber enjoys listening to music, spending time with her family, dining out, and watching sci-fi movies and television series.
