Vanessa Ponce graduated from Elon University in May 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. Following graduation, Vanessa served a year with AmeriCorps with the Orange County Literacy Council in Carrboro, teaching GED, computer skills, and basic literacy classes. Vanessa then joined NCSSM in July 2011 as a Community Coordinator and has served as an RLA Coordinator, Senior Community Coordinator, and now as Assistant Director of Residential Education, Housing, and Dining. During her time at NCSSM, Vanessa has led two environmental education courses in Panama, created and taught the Capes and Culture course for several years, and has sponsored multiple student organizations including Asian Student Association ASA, Latiné Student Union LSU, and Red Cross Club. Additionally, Vanessa has led the Student Services Cultural Competency Committee, which promotes inclusion at NCSSM and educates the community on how to better understand, communicate with, and support people across cultures.
