Rex Jeffries joined NCSSM in August 2016 as an instructor of engineering and computer science in the school’s residential and DEEP programs where he has taught Biomedical Engineering, Honors Forensic Accident Investigation and Material Evidence, Cryptography, AP Computer Science Principles and Web Development courses. He has also taught Honors Physics and Web Development through NCSSM’s Interactive Videoconferencing studios. Rex conducted breast cancer research as a postdoctoral scholar at NC State University. He also managed the BioMed-Connect Alliance Mentoring Incubator in the College of Engineering, working with underrepresented minority high school, community college and engineering undergraduates in biomedical research. His pre-doctoral research and training was conducted at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he developed a bioartificial liver to conduct drug metabolism studies. As a lecturer at Winston-Salem State University, Rex taught Computer Architecture, Digital Logic Design and Intro to Computers. He has 15 years of industry experience as a senior software engineer in the telecommunications and networking industry, where his significant contribution was the software development of the first Digital Subscriber Line DSL offering for internet service providers. Outside of teaching, Rex enjoys travel, sports, and performing arts.
