John Kirk

Joined NCSSM in August 2003

John Kirk has taught Engineering at NCSSM since 2007, after beginning his career at NCSSM in Student Life in 2003. He has developed and taught six NCSSM courses, ranging broadly from Electrical Engineering and Circuits, to Architecture, the History of Engineering and Technology, and Engineering the Modern. He has served as departmental coordinator since 2016, and has served in a number of service roles, including Faculty Senate and the Accreditation, Curriculum Review, and Course and Schedule Committees. Outside the classroom, John has taken students several times to Berlin for January Term and has been the advisor for the student newspaper, The Stentorian, since 2005. He worked as a senior engineer and project manager in Flight Simulation at McDonnell-Douglas and Boeing before joining NCSSM. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Kentucky and a master’s degree in engineering management from Washington University in St. Louis.
