The Parent Association is a representative body of both junior and senior parents — NCSSM’s version of a PTA. The Association is excited to support school activities by organizing volunteer service opportunities for parents and guardians and by acting as a collective voice for parents’ interests. All parents of current students, including both the Durham and Morganton campuses and the Online Program, are automatically members of the Parent Association and there are no accompanying dues.
We’ve got a slate of gatherings throughout the year when we rely on parent support — from welcoming the newest NCSSM families and cheering on our students, to thanking staff and celebrating accomplishments, there are many ways for parents to get involved!
The Parent Association leadership team consists of an Executive Committee and Regional Parent Liaisons. These two groups are dedicated to fostering a strong, statewide community among parents and facilitating their engagement with the school. They collaborate to organize events, provide support, and advance the school’s mission. Current parents who are interested in joining the Parent Association leadership team can email Trish Aiello (Parent Relations Director) or the current Parent Association Chairperson.
Meeting Schedule
To keep our Residential program parent body informed and involved, virtual meetings are held once in the summer to welcome new and returning members and four times during the school year. All meetings are held via videoconference, and campus-specific sessions take place toward the end of each meeting to ensure families receive information relevant to their student’s campus.
Summer Information Sessions for Residential program families take place at various UNC System schools throughout the state, typically in July. More details will be shared via your NCSSM family email account in advance of each event.
The meeting and event schedule for Online program families includes one virtual meeting in March to learn about Prom events and the May Online Recognition Ceremony.
Online program families are invited to attend a Summer Information Session on the NCSSM-Durham campus in August. This event is held in conjunction with the Online Student Kickoff. More details will be shared via your NCSSM family email account in advance of each event.
Mark the dates listed below on your calendars as we’d love to have you join us! If you are unable to attend a meeting, please view meeting minutes and recordings below (please allow two weeks after each event for the minutes and recording to be posted). Please log in to your NCSSM email account to access the minutes and/or any recordings.
