As the leader of NCSSM Communications, Bryan Gilmer helps the school tell stories of the transformative power of NCSSM across both its campuses and its wide array of North Carolina programs. He convenes the NCSSM Communications Council, connecting the work of colleagues outside Communications whose jobs include communicating. Previously, Bryan served as director of marketing and development for the main homeless shelter and emergency services provider in downtown Durham. He earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and began his career as a newspaper reporter. After moving to Durham in 2003, Bryan worked for a decade as a communications consultant serving many units of Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill as well as corporate clients including Netflix and The Streets at Southpoint. He and his family live in a century-old house in Old East Durham, and outside of work he enjoys repairing cars and machinery, hiking, and attending concerts.
