Description of Duties:
The Instructor of Science (Biology) position reports to the Morganton Chair of Science and is responsible for the instruction of three classes each semester and two classes each January Term.

General duties include:
● Develop and communicate to students clear course objectives and goals
● Plan and develop an instructional program that helps students assimilate specific course content and skills
● Hold tutorial sessions as outlined by the department
● Regularly monitor and evaluate students’ progress
● Provide students with resources and feedback on their performance
● Structure and manage an environment conducive to learning
● Model for students responsibility to self and others
● Follow NCSSM’s philosophy, policies, and procedures
● Attend departmental, discipline, faculty meetings; effectively collaborate with colleagues
● Participate in professional development and personal intellectual growth activities

Participate in one or more of the following activities:
● Serve as academic advisor, sponsor a club, competition, or event
● Serve as an officer of Faculty Senate
● Provide administrative support such as managing Teaching Assistants
● Provide information, service, and expertise to other schools and organizations
● Assist students on special projects, independent and individual study, and seminar-based studies
● Participate in the Admissions Process by recruiting, selecting, and advising prospective students
● Participate in NCSSM alumni activities
● Provide assistance for school-sponsored programs and extracurricular activities.

Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license with no serious driving-related convictions. Occasional travel with students is expected in association with science extracurricular activities and/or scientific meetings.

The position is a full-time, 10-month appointment in the Department of Science at the NCSSM-Morganton campus, with full benefits through the state of North Carolina. Additional paid employment is possible during the summer months for interested instructors.

Specific duties:
Teach 3 class sections each semester and one 4 week or two 2 week January Term courses. Adopt core NCSSM science courses and develop new elective and interdisciplinary courses. Teaching responsibilities, as determined by the Chair, will be primarily residential classes but may include online teaching assignments. Specific courses for 2026-2027 will include two sections of Foundations of Data Science, with the remainder of the teaching load consisting of biology focused courses such as Classical Genetics, Molecular Genetics, Neuroscience, Evolution, Climate Change Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology and Research Experience in Biology.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Management Preferences:
● Experience teaching high school or undergraduate biology/science with a quantitative approach and a commitment to engaging gifted and motivated students in face-to-face and online classrooms.
● Enthusiasm for student-centered, hands-on lab activities and familiarity with educational and laboratory technology.
● Interest in emphasizing quantitative and computational approaches to science content and incorporating the concepts and techniques of data science.
● Ability to code in one or more programming languages and familiarity with statistical testing of scientific data sets.
● Experience mentoring science research.

Education and Experience:
Master’s degree or higher in Biology, a related Natural Science or Science Education with demonstrated teaching experience. Alternatively a Master’s degree or higher in a technical field such as computer science or engineering, with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, a related Natural Science or Science Education with demonstrated teaching experience.Preparation for teaching a student population with a broad range of background knowledge as shown by training or experience.

A Master’s degree is required. Candidates currently pursuing their degree must provide proof of degree conferral by the hire date.

Description of Duties:

This position would serve as a temporary project coordinator and report to the Director of Capital Projects and Morganton Facilities Management at NCSSM-Morganton. 

This position will perform duties as-directed in the support of Morganton Facilities Management projects for construction, repair, maintenance, and related procurement on the NCSSM-Morganton campus.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Provide administrative support for projects under the supervision of the Director of Capital Projects and Morganton Facilities Management for NCSSM
• Schedule and coordinate project staff and personnel, including communication with Morganton Facilities Management staff to ensure vendor on-site personnel are checked in and managed appropriately
• Administer projects using project management software (like Asana)
• Support the Director of Capital Projects and Morganton Facilities Management by performing oversight of purchasing and project budgets forMorganton Facilities Management and Capital Projects department
• Assist with request for quote and request for bid document development, collection, organization, and filing
• Solicit quotes or bids for projects, including outreach to relevant vendors/contractors
• Track and file project costs from pricing to quotes to invoicing inside NCSSM protocols
• Collaborate with the NCSSM-Morganton Administrative Operations team and institutional Business Office to track and review invoicing for projects
• Assist with project closeout, including document collection and organization, and quality review
• Collect, track, and report proper documentation as may be required by various authorities having jurisdiction including, but not limited to, State of NC DOA, UNC System, NCSSM, OSHA, NC Department of Insurance, NC State Construction Office, NC DHHS, Burke County Health Department, and the City of Morganton
• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

The desired candidate would have previous building construction, building repair, or building maintenance administrative experience as well as:

• Experience in the procurement and administration of small maintenance and construction projects
• Experience soliciting, reviewing, and clarifying quotes
• Experience documenting, tracking, and reporting project financial data
• Experience receiving, reviewing, and submitting (for payment or revision) invoices with multiple line items
• Customer service experience
• Ability to occasionally traverse uneven terrain with dense foliage on foot
• Ability to perform quality review of work performed according to drawings and specifications
• Experience using project management software

Education and Experience:

Description of Duties:
Coaches are responsible for organizing and maintaining an Interscholastic team.  Coaches are expected to create an atmosphere which will promote group and individual growth both in athletic skills and the concepts of teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship. 

Coaches should have a thorough knowledge of all NCSSM and NCHSAA athletic policies and be responsible for their implementation for their team.  Coaches work with the NCSSM athletics department to communicate expectations and information to student athletes on their teams.  Coaches are required to be CPR certified and to complete NFHS coursework as required by the NCHSAA.  Coaches will be required to drive school vehicles so they must have a clean driving record. CDL preferred.

CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach

WORKING TITLE: Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $1,200 Stipend

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the sport of soccer techniques, and ability to plan and facilitate practical activities
throughout the fall season. The responsibilities will include assisting with the design of practice
planning, administering practice implantation, organizing and helping facilitate travel logistics, organizing match preparation, and managing match day preparation.

Description of Duties:
Residence Education Instruction (80%)

• Teach required junior Residential Education classes: Cornerstone (transition to NCSSM, professional communication, healthy relationships, culture and self care), Co-teach College and Career Planning with the Counseling department. 
• Teach Residential Education electives: Financial Planning, Leadership, Public Speaking and Exploring Multicultural  America.
• Participate in the development and evaluation of new curriculum. Conduct research and consult with staff members and other resources in the design and development of new curriculum. 
• Coordinate the review/assessment of current curriculum to ensure that course/program is meeting intended objectives and requirements. 
• Use evaluations and data to make recommendations for how to improve and edit curricula on an annual basis. 
• Develop and use a variety of effective teaching and assessment methods and learning styles by using computers and information technology.
• Evaluate student’s oral presentations, projects and written work using clear explicit criteria relevant to the course content and learning objectives.
• Maintain and submit accurate reports on published deadlines (i.e.’ Grades, syllabi).
• Communicate with other instructors regarding ideas and resources for particular class sessions.
• Be available to students outside the classroom. Communicate availability and encourage students to contact you for assistance.
• Evaluate each class session for its strengths and weaknesses and make recommendations for change or modification.
• Verbal and written communication to students, parents, and student support team members. 

Institutional Advancement Responsibilities (20%)

• Serve as the primary point of contact for Morganton Student Leadership Attaché Role (anticipated to be 5 seniors in 2026-27).Coordinate programs and activities connected to the Morganton Attaché program.  This includes overseeing the planning and execution of at least two student led events per year.
• Available to purchase supplies, reserve event spaces, coordinate with on-campus partners, attend regular planning meetings, coordinate events.    
• Lead summer training and winter recruitment for the Morganton Attaché program.
• Communicate and collaborate with Institutional Advancement Team Members as needed to coordinate the Morganton Attaché program.
