This course uses hands-on experiential teaching techniques and interactive participation to prepare individuals for planning, opening and operating a small business. This includes developing self-esteem, critical thinking and problem-solving skills needed for successful entrepreneurship. Emphasis is placed on market research, financing, time management, and the day-to-day activities of owning/operating a small business. Upon completion, the participants should be able to write and implement a viable business plan and obtain financing for an enterprise.
The Entrepreneurial Mindset
Ed Hallyburton is a Business and Marketing instructor at East Burke High School in Connelly Springs, North Carolina. He has administered the Microsoft Academy Certification in Excel & Access. He has been the Yearbook advisor and works with military recruiters to educate students on military career opportunities. Mr. Hallyburton began his education career as a Special Educator in Florida. He spent over twenty years in business management and has served his community in economic development and county planning. His interests are cybersecurity, economic development, and agriculture. He has presented at Bridging the Gap STEM Conference at North Carolina State University on Project-Based Lesson Planning. He has worked with other educators in delivering the GenCyber program, sponsored by the NSF and the NSA at a local community college. He has attended cybersecurity training at Virginia Tech.
