This is a course rich in exploration and lab investigation which applies many disciplines of scientific study such as biology/anatomy, chemistry, and physics to solving crimes. Forensic Science uses an interactive approach to learning that gives you an opportunity to immerse yourself in the challenging complexities of crime scene investigation. You and your team will work together to solve the mystery of a realistic crime scene. In this true-to-life simulation, you will gather evidence, study the clues, analyze the data and, maybe, solve the crime. The residential time will allow you to work in small groups to execute the skills of crime scene investigation. Topics include: · DNA Analysis · Blood Spatter Analysis · Skeletal Identification · Fingerprinting · Footwear and Tire Impressions

Jennifer Miller
About The Instructor:
Jennifer Miller joined NCSSM as a Summer Accelerator Instructor in the summer of 2023. She graduated from Appalachian State University with a Master’s in Exercise Physiology. Several years later, she decided to follow her passion for teaching. She earned her Master’s and EdS degrees from Lincoln Memorial University. She had the honor of teaching at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School for 15 years. Moving back to the High Country in 2018, Jennifer has taught a variety of science classes at Ashe County High School. Jennifer loves to cheer on the App State Mountaineers. She enjoys the outdoors, plays pickle ball, and spending time with friends and family. She is looking forward to another summer of Forensic Investigations.
