Course Description:

“Biomimicry: Nature-inspired Design” is a project-based, hands-on learning experience that asks high schoolers to design bio-inspired ideas that solve important real-world challenges. Learners will explore biology’s functionality, through direct observation and research, then transform selected strategies into an innovative engineering design while working collaboratively in teams.

Learners will explore the traits and strategies of living things for design inspiration. They will reflect on and present their solutions in writing, imagery, and/or via a video pitch. Learners will investigate a problem connected to global sustainability issues and will create and refine a design innovation. Students will demonstrate progress of learning through a celebration culmination by presenting their discoveries of biology, how the biology inspired their solution, what their solution does, and who might benefit from it in the real-world.
