The Washington Post and education reporter Jay Mathews have once again named North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics to the annual list of top-performing schools with elite students.

NCSSM is one of only 25 schools in the country to make the list. These schools of “exceptional quality” are exempt from the Washington Post’s list of America’s Most Challenging High Schools, which is designed to recognize schools that challenge average students, as their admission rules and standardized test scores indicate they have few or no average students.
