Reunion Challenge brings highest alumni participation to date

The 2017 Alumni Reunion Challenge is complete, with five out of seven reunion classes meeting their class challenge by October 11. While the official challenge has concluded, the Class of 1987 is continuing to push for 30% participation by the end of October to receive a challenge gift, totaling $6,000, pledged by two Class of ‘87 Alumni.

The Reunion Challenge is an opportunity for classes to rally together in support of the school, prior to coming back to campus for Alumni Weekend. Each class has a participation challenge based on the reunion year they are celebrating that year. Alumni in each class step up as Campaign Ambassadors to encourage their classmates to participate in the challenge and make a gift to the NCSSM Foundation.

The Classes of 2002 and 2012 got involved early on, surpassing their class goal prior to the start of Alumni Weekend. During Alumni Weekend, classes who had not yet met their goals stepped up to the challenge, making gifts on site the day of their reunion. Both 1982 and 2007 exceeded their class goal by noon on Saturday. The classes of 1987, 1992, and 1997 each made significant progress against their goal during Alumni Weekend, with each class within reach of their goal by the end of the weekend. After a brief extension, the classes of 1992 met their goal as well, recruiting 17 classmates to donate in the final 48 hours of their challenge, exceeding their class goal of 25% participation.

As a group, this year’s reunion classes contributed more than $62,100, with participation from 323 donors, resulted in 18.7% participation from all alumni celebrating a reunion this year. This is a significant increase from 2016, when the Reunion Challenge concluded with 8.2% of the reunion alumni contributing.

Alumni giving across all classes is also on the rise, with 6.4% of alumni contributing through October 11, compared to just 2.0% at this time in 2016. If alumni giving continues at this increased trajectory, it will easily surpass the 12.0% total alumni giving during the 2016-2017 fiscal year.

Congratulations to all of our reunion classes who banded together in support of NCSSM. Thanks to these alumni for their leadership and commitment to conquering the Reunion Challenge!
