“A Musical Thank You” Community Concert (Durham)

May 8, 2026, 7pm

NCSSM-Durham 1219 Broad St., Durham, NC 27705

In an ode of thanks, the NCSSM Fine Arts Series will present a special concert as Scott Laird prepares to retire from NCSSM after 25 years. The concert will take place Friday, May 8, at 7 p.m., offering an opportunity for him to thank the entire community.

The program will include “Academic Festival Overture,” “How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place” (with community chorus), one of Laird’s original compositions, and a surprise final number.

Anyone who would like to join the chorus is welcome – alumni, faculty, staff, and friends, whether they’ve sung Brahms’ “How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place” many times or never before.

All alumni string players are also invited to join the orchestra on stage. We’d love to have you join us.
