Course Description:

This course will provide students with a general overview on Holocaust history by exploring the following topics: Identity, Pre-war Jewish life, Antisemitism, Nazi Ideology and Propaganda, Individual choices made by Perpetrators, Bystanders and Rescuers, Survivor Impact, and the Lessons and Legacy of the Holocaust. This course will be personalized to connect students with North Carolina Survivors through testimony and exhibits provided by the North Carolina Council on the Holocaust, including a trip to the Women of the Shoah monument in Greensboro. This course will also feature a component of the role that Science, Math and Technology played in the Holocaust including research into scientist and mathematician refugees who escaped Nazi Germany and settled in North Carolina.

About The Instructor:

Ms. Clark retired from McDowell County Schools in 2018 as a media coordinator. She has worked diligently in Holocaust education since 2009 and helped to create the Holocaust curriculum that is taught in grades 6-12 in North Carolina. She currently serves as regional director for the NC Council on the Holocaust.
