Course Description:

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to travel back in time? 

Grab a passport and come aboard the Wayback Machine. This course is designed to unlock the mysteries of some of the most magnificent structures and wonders on planet Earth. Students will be immersed in the past while looking towards the future through innovative engineering design challenges and problem solving. Students will strengthen their leadership skills and learn to be effective team members while exploring STEAM ideas & core subject concepts.  Throughout the week students will “quantum leap” through time to ancient destinations while exploring architecture, technology, biomedical technology, ancient civilizations and their ways of getting things done!

About The Instructor:

Ms. April Love is a Raleigh native and a 31 year veteran educator who was honored in 2019-2020 & 2023-2034 with the Connections Academy Teacher of The Year Award. Currently Ms. Love is the S.T.E.M. teacher & intervention coordinator at Connections Academy (alternative) Middle School in Wake County. For over 20 years she has created and implemented educational curriculums and workshops for non-profit community based organizations and university partners to provide interactive educational experiences for children and their families. Volunteering is an important part of citizenship, April volunteers at the NC Museum of Art, The Wake Boys & Girls Clubs and serves on the Raleigh Parks and Recreation Board.

Tiffany Sessoms is an eastern North Carolina native. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology/history from Chowan University and her Middle Grades Social Studies licensure from East Carolina University. She has been a Social Studies teacher for nine years and taught in Wake County Public Schools for six years. She is also the 2021-2022 “Teacher of the Year” for Connections Academy Middle School. Tiffany is passionate about helping every student find their genius. During her leisure time, she enjoys traveling, exploring nature, reading a great book and, spending time with family and friends.
