Come explore some of the oh-so-many ways that math can be fun, exciting, challenging, and thought-provoking! In this camp, students will look at logic and proof, prime numbers, calendar math, how we can use (and manipulate) data, discrete math topics, non-Euclidean geometries (when distance takes on new and perhaps unexpected meanings), and more. Are you comfortable with fractions and decimals? We’ll explore ways to really master converting in between them. You learned how to count years ago – but we’ll readdress this and look at counting in really big “intractable” problems. Beyond just the basics of these topics, students will explore how math impacts different subjects and areas of their lives. We’ll have a lot of fun with a combination of lectures, facilitated discussion, exploration, and research.
