Course Description:

Have you wondered why soapy bubbles float? How does the oven work to bake delicious chocolate cookies? In this class, we will explore the magical science hidden in everyday household items. Specifically, we will discover the wonders of air, heat, plastics, acid/base, and more through hands-on experiments, interactive activities, and exciting projects. Become a true kitchen scientist as you learn to think and experiment like the scientists, applying scientific principles to the things you encounter daily.

About The Instructor:

Yejun Bae is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum at Appalachian State University. Bae’s research centers around generative and inclusive STEM learning environments. Currently, she is actively investigating the relationships between students’ sense of belonging and their academic achievements in mathematics and science, utilizing international large-scale assessment data in her research projects.
