In this course, we will explore the variety of ways that the parts of the natural world interact and depend on each other. From the smallest insects to the largest trees, there is a complex web outside our doors that can be explored through biology, physics, chemistry, and more. We will learn about the ecology of population growth, communities, and conservation and how it relates to the consumer lifestyle, and to the impacts of resource depletion and environmental degradation. This is a hands-on, student-led exploration of the world of Environmental Science.

About The Instructor:
I am a proud NC native, and I now call Brevard my home! I was born in Greensboro NC, and I grew up in the mountains of Asheville NC. I attended Wake Forest University, where I received a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, with a minor in Environmental Science. After graduation, I traveled as a Fulbright Scholar to Peru, where I studied the biodiversity of ground beetles in Andean cloud forests. I used this research to pursue a Ph.D. in Biology, also from Wake Forest (go Deacs!). I am currently the Division Chair of Science and Mathematics, and an Associate Professor of Biology at Brevard College, where I have taught since 2014.
