Course Introduction

An honors-level exploration of how computing systems, from early machines to AI, reflect our values and shape our world. We will explore technology through real-world accounts and thought-provoking texts, reflecting power and values, and covering critical topics such as algorithmic bias, ethical AI, and the digital divide. Through student-led investigations and creative projects, we’ll look to the past for context, analyze the present with clarity, and imagine a future built on empathy, ethics, and human connection.

Prerequisites: None
Materials/Textbook: Materials will be provided on loan from NCSSM.
Site Requirements: Ready access to a computer with internet and web conferencing capabilities. Headphones equipped with built-in microphones are recommended for shared spaces.
