To ensure that every student has appropriately considered the various options for Mini-Term activities, each student will be required to discuss a minimum of three proposed courses (and/or an independent project) with the involved NCSSM faculty or staff and to obtain their signatures below. Although this can take place anytime between September 27th and October 14th , the following date/time, has been set aside specifically for Mini-Term planning:
Each student must turn in the Course Investigation form with his or her three courses to the Academic Programs Office.
The Mini-Term 2013 Proposed Courses catalog describes the extensive array of potential opportunities our faculty members have developed. These range from abstract algebra to aviation and from neuroscience to Shakespeare. Instructors are encouraged to employ creative teaching methodologies, and the courses are conducted in a variety of academic settings, both on the NCSSM campus and off. In some cases they are truly OFF campus, like the Costa Rica or the Appalachian Trail. In addition to choosing from among these exciting course possibilities, students also have the appealing option of proposing their own independent academic project, under the guidance of an NCSSM staff member. Such projects undergo a rigorous review by a committee of faculty and staff. If approved, the student is permitted to work individually, or in a coordinated group, reporting daily progress to the adult sponsor.
