Video didn’t kill the radio star after all — but it did shed more light on two NCSSM students who took to the airwaves this summer as part of WUNC’s Youth Reporting Institute.  

Djelimory Diabate ‘17 and Gayathri Raghavendra ‘17 joined a group of seven WUNC youth radio reporters completing an internship over the summer. Interns pitch, report, write, and produce radio news stories on assignment for possible broadcast on North Carolina Public Radio-WUNC, telling stories about their communities in their own voices.

Djelimory Diabate ‘17  wanted to share a story about high school basketball players who hope to play college ball–a category that includes himself–and talks to a fellow college hopeful, a scout, and interviews his father on the topic. Listen to Diabate’s story, recently published on WUNC.

In her story, Gayathri Raghavendra ‘17 explored the question of what it means to be Indian American. She speaks with fellow NCSSM students Youngmin Shin ‘17 and Tia Valakuzhy ‘17, as well as her sister and father as part of her story. Listen to Raghavendra’s story on WUNC.
