Gaussian, Inc., the leading developer of software for computational chemistry, has donated a copy of its Gaussian 09 software to NCSSM’s chemistry program. The software, valued at about $6,000, will be installed on a new version of the North Carolina High School Computational Chemistry server, a research-grade online resource that is available to any pre-college student or teacher in the state of North Carolina. The server is used heavily by students in both the online and residential programs at NCSSM.
“This new code will allow students, especially chemistry research students, to run more complicated and sophisticated analyses of chemical systems using a computational approach,” says Bob Gotwals, chemistry instructor and administrator of the NCHSCC server. “This new code contains new mathematical and computational capabilities over the much older version of Gaussian currently running on the server.”
