An alumna of NCSSM-Durham, Rachel Rueckeis ’88 returned to NCSSM in July 2023 as an Instructor of Physics on our Morganton campus. She earned her bachelor’s degree in physics at Stanford University and her master’s degree at the University of Texas at Austin. In Austin she performed research in quantum optics and on meteor scatter communication. In 1994 Rachel married her German husband and moved to Berlin, where, after receiving a German teaching degree from Lehramtsstudium und Staatsprüfungen für das Amt des Studienrats, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, taught physics in both German and English at various Berlin high schools for 22 years. She especially enjoys teaching modern physics and quantum mechanics, and has taken students on field trips to a nuclear reactor in Dubna, Russia, to the European Space Agency in Moscow, and to CERN in Geneva. In her spare time Rachel loves endurance sports, especially triathlons, and hopes to work with a triathlon team at NCSSM-Morganton.
