Joining NCSSM in 2023, Matthew Taylor works in the Extended Learning division as the Partnership and Student Support Specialist for NCSSM Connect. Matthew is a fervent advocate of education, with NC roots (Warren County, 252!) and branches across coasts. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and his master’s of sociology at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Matthew has worked for more than a decade recruiting students for programming, mentoring, and supporting academic success. His commitment to providing access and social equity is displayed through teaching, political activism, community organizing, and event programming. Some of the hats Matthew has worn are program coordinator for an education nonprofit, high school social studies teacher, and youth poetry club facilitator. You are also likely to find him on stage somewhere performing spoken word, at a hip hop or jazz show, or at home binge-watching documentaries and anime.
