Khortney Hamlin joined NCSSM as a Community Coordinator in March 2022. Before coming to NCSSM, she was a classroom teacher of 7th graders in middle schools in Durham, a job she has enjoyed since graduating from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. While at UNC Charlotte, Khortney majored in middle grades education, with concentrations in history and science, and minored in Spanish. She volunteered with her local library, tutoring programs, and the Army Reserve Child and Youth School Services while in undergrad, working with all ages of students, from preschoolers to high school students. Khortney is currently enrolled in North Carolina Central University’s Master of Library Science program. She enjoys reading, writing, and baking, and is currently learning how to knit. A lover of self-care, you can find her in Lush, on a trail in Eno or Umstead, or drinking tea and watching Hulu.
