Students will be exposed to concepts from planetary science such as the main sequence of solar evolution, plate tectonics, nutrient cycling, and other aspects that determine whether a planet can support life. They will choose a planet and estimate how much life it might support, and then divide that estimate into populations at each trophic level. Finally, they will produce descriptions and drawings of alien creatures, which will be peer-reviewed for scientific plausibility and then combined into ecosystem-level diagrams.
