Engineering and Technology at NCSSM
There are two groups in
this department, Engineering and Computer Science.
Engineering
- Mr. John Kirk has professional
experience in aeronautical and electrical engineering. He oversees the
mentorship program and teaches courses in Engineering. He is developing
the Architecture and Engineering the Modern courses.
- BSEE, University of Kentucky
- MEM, Washington University in St. Louis
- John spent several years at Boeing doing engineering work on
avionic systems.
- Dr. Ershela Sims
has worked to build the framework for our new Engineeering Program. She
teaches Statics, Biomedical Instrumentation, and introductory courses in
robotics, electrical and mechanical engineering.

University of North Carolina
- Postdoctoral study at Duke University in Biomechanics
- Dr. Sims has professional experience as a biomedical engineer
and softwarei design engineer. She
has also taught courses in Human Physiology and Gross Anatomy at
Duke University School of Medicine. She has performed research on
osteoarthritis of the knee
- Dr. Joseph
Lobuglio is our newest faculty member. He joins us from UNC. He is a
mechanical and environmental engineeer who has worked on water supply
systems. He teaches Mechanical Engineering. and runs the FIRST robotics
competition.

- Dr. Lobuglio has fifteen years of professional and
academic experience at the university level.
