Rev. 8/13/2011
These are the rules that apply in all classes using computer labs. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask us.
Mostly we use the ELab but we may also use the a regular classroom with a projector if all students have a lappy. Sometimes, we may use the Ground Reynolds Lab (GRL/Robotics Lab). The ELab and GRL is a very public areas. Often, guests of the school are brought on tours and are shown the labs. Our labs are frequently visited by administrators, trustees, or other guests and VIPs. Always be on "suit alert." It is important for you to convey a good impression of our school to others.
Yes, that means they are "fishbowls". Everyone sees in 'em all the time, so you should be on your best behavior.
When you come to a computer lab class be ready to work. After the first couple of days of class, you will know what applications or files you need to have open. Get these ready to go at the beginning of class. This will help your teacher make optimal use of precious class time. You may also want to open a Word or Notepad or text file in vi to enter any notes in during the lab.
Power strips will be available in computing classes. Bring your power cord so you don't run out of juice in the middle of class.
These rules apply at all times, without exception.
- No Spittin'
- No Swearin'
- No Horseplay
- No Victuals
- No Drinkin' of any kind
- Whatever your bring with you, make sure you take away when you go.
When class is not in session The computer labs are workplaces; it is vital that the atmosphere in them is productive. You should work unobtrusively.
When class is in session We encourage laptop use in our classes, but we expect you to be on-task. Keep the sound on your machine turned low. Do not do recreational computing during class time. The school's has a lappy policy in the student handbook; familiarize yourself with it.
If a teacher is using the lab and the door is open, ask permission to come in and work. If the door is closed and a teacher is holding class, do not interrupt it.
