A Message from the Chancellor |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Welcome
to the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. As chancellor of such
a pioneering establishment, I am very fortunate and honored to be a part of one
of the most respected and innovative public high schools in the country. With its opening in 1980, NCSSM broke new ground in secondary education. Immediately, the School became a model for schools both here and abroad; at last count, thirteen states and three foreign countries established schools based on the NCSSM blueprint. Today, the School continues to stand as an example of excellence, enhancing and revitalizing public education statewide. Our School's faculty and facilities are consummate, the student-body top-notch. Together, they have created a community focused on fostering integrity, proliferating intellect, and expanding worldviews. At NCSSM, we challenge our students not only to think, but to do. A recent graduate said: "…the greatest mistake one can make in life is to be in continuous fear that you will make one… What makes NCSSM unique? The fact that we are given the chance to make mistakes, without being in fear of making them." That is what I feel this school is all about. Explore our Web site to learn more about the School, but keep in mind that you're only getting a glimpse of what NCSSM is all about. The only way to fully appreciate what NCSSM offers is to visit the campus. I hope you like what you see, and love what you learn. Warm Regards, ![]() Dr. Gerald L.
