Agency’s Goals and Programs offered to Clients/People Served

The YWCA has four program areas: racial justice, youth development, economic advancement, and health and wellness. The “What’s Wrong with Different” program educates children about cultural awareness. The “Outback Adventure” program teaches children how to treat the natural environment. The “Displaced Homemakers” programs pays for recently divorced or widowed women to go to college and get a degree so they can generate income.

Agency’s Impact on the Community

90% of the women in the Displaced Homemakers program find a suitable wage job. 99% of the children who participated in What’s Wrong with Different said they would not judge someone else based on their race or culture. This program has served over 6,000 students over five years. The YWCA of the Lower Cape Fear served a total of 99,000 units in 2008.
