Agency’s Mission Statement
The Watauga Humane Society’s mission is to provide a temporary home for homeless dogs, cats and other domesticated animals; work to get as many of these animals adopted by loving families; provide low-cost opportunities to decrease the number of homeless animals; and educate the public about certain key animal issues.
Agency’s Goals and Programs Offered to Clients/People Served
The Watauga Humane Society’s main goal is to save abandoned or lost animals by removing them from the street and providing a temporary home. They provide the animals or “clients” with a clean place to stay, food, water and love. They raise money through donations, fundraisers, and they strive to cover the expenses. The Watauga Humane Society also offers a low-cost clinic for animals not in the Humane Society.
Impact the Agency Has Made on the Community
The Watauga Humane Society has had a prodigious impact on Watauga County by providing a temporary home for over a thousand animals each year. In the past five years they have saved over fifty-two hundred animals. For the majority they receive their donations from animal control, stray and people who surrender their animals. In 2009, the majority of the animals were dogs, with 602, and cats, with 417. They also saved rabbits, birds, ferrets, reptiles, hamsters, guinea pigs, and rats. They are currently in the process of building a new facility to increase the number of animals they can have.
