Agency Mission Statement:

To serve the veteran through the delivery of timely, quality care by staff who demonstrate outstanding customer service, the advancement of healthcare through research, and the education of tomorrow’s health care providers.

Agency Goals and Programs:

VA Medical Center’s goals are to become recognized locally, regionally, and nationally as a leader in quality patient care, positive customer service, medical/allied health education, health-related research, and employment opportunities. Services include extended care and rehabilitation, mental health, OEF/OIF-Seamless Transition, pharmacy, primary care, social work, specialty care, and women’s health.

Agency Impact:

VA Medical Center has improved the health of veterans for years. Services are made available to more than 200,000 veterans living in a 26-county area of central and eastern NC. This agency has also helped improve the “health of men and women who have so proudly served our nation” in a time when war veterans are left on the street, diseased, impoverished, and dishonored.

Volunteer Duties:

  • Organizing, stocking, and creating patient education materials
  • Overseeing patient waiting area for the Primary Care Clinic
  • Developing a filing system
  • Creating Word and Excel documents for the Hematology/Oncology Department
