Mission Statement:

To turn our community away from domestic violence and to provide victims of domestic violence and their dependent children with safe shelter while they learn how to break free from their abuser(s).

Agency’s Goals and Programs:

Turning Point seeks to provide shelter to abused women and their children, to provide counseling and case management that leads abused victims to self-sufficiency, to raise community awareness about the problems of domestic abuse, and to work with other agencies in the area to develop a response team.

Agency Impact on Community:

Turning Point has served our community as a victims-advocate service, oftentimes being a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. In 2007-2008, the agency responded to 264 crisis calls, provided 914 hours of counseling, and served 986 clients.

Volunteer Duties:

  • Providing childcare for women housed at the shelter
  • Speaking to peer groups about safe-dating practices
  • Working as a community contact for fund-raising events
