Agency’s Mission Statement

The mission of the Altapass Foundation is to preserve the history, heritage, and culture of the southern Blue Ridge region; protect the orchard land along with its apples, wetlands, butterflies, and other natural features; and involve the public in the unique regional experience.

Agency’s Goals and Programs Offered

To involve the community and to educate the people who come to the orchard about the historic stretch of land that played a major role in both the Revolutionary War and the Civil War.

Agency’s Impact on the Community

The agency has provided a place that will be preserved for centuries to come so that all may take part in the beauty, culture, and love that is the orchard.

Volunteer Duties

• Manual Labor: keeping grounds, restoring roads, etc.
• Tagging butterflies
• Selling Merchandise
• Giving history lessons
