Agency’s Mission Statement:

Ten Thousand Villages provides vital, fair income to Third World people by marketing their handicrafts and telling their stories in North America. Ten Thousand Villages works with artisans who would otherwise be unemployed or underemployed. This income helps pay for food, education, health care and housing. Ten Thousand Villages is a nonprofit program of Mennonite Central Committee.

Agency’s goals and programs offered to clients/people served:

The agency’s goal is that one day, all artisans in the developing counties will earn a fair wage be treated with dignity and respect ad be able to live a life of equality.

Programs: Ten Thousand Villages works with artisans to provide traditional goods that appeal to Western tastes. These goods are sold in stores across North America,which provides a fair wage to the artisans. A fair price, long-term relationships, cash advances and prompt final payments design collaboration, and environmental responsibility characterize this Fair Trade Organization.

Impact the agency has made on the community:

Global community: Ten Thousand Villages works with over 130 artisan groups in more than 38 counties in Africa, Asia, and Lain America. It builds long-term relationships with artisans that are based on mutual understanding and respect. It is one of the world’s oldest and largest fair trade organizations, enabling artisans to earn a fair wage and give them a opportunity to create a better life.
