Mission Statement:
To improve math and science education through the effective use of modeling and simulation technologies-”computational science.”
Agency’s Goals and Programs:
For students from middle school through undergraduate levels of education, Shodor offers workshops, apprenticeships, internships, and off-site programs that explore new approaches to math and science education through computational science. ‘Interactivate’ is mathematics courseware developed to provide online lessons to teachers for free. The Computational Science Education Reference Desk (CSERD) helps students learn about computational science and helps teachers incorporate it into the classroom. Shodor aims to offer online education tools, workshops, and apprentices, and to help teachers incorporate computer science into their own programs.
Agency Impact on Community:
Shodor has made computational science education tools that are for anyone to learn and has helped encourage young adults in computer science, science, and mathematics by providing them with the opportunities to both learn and apply skills in those fields.
Volunteer Duties:
- Helping teach workshops both on-site and off-site
- Helping create and maintain the web content and resources
- Troubleshooting any problems with Shodor computers
- Assisting with any jobs needing to be done around the office
