Agency’s Mission Statement

To make Riverworks at Sturgeon City the model for inspiring youth leadership, civic involvement, habitat restoration, environmental education, and stewardship of the New River and coastal wetlands.

Agency’s Goals and Programs offered to Clients/People Served

The agency’s goals are primarily to clean up the Wilson Bay, New River, and coastal wetlands as well as to educate students about the environment of wetlands and environmental volutneerism. It offers students classes (Sturgeon City Institute) not only surrounding environmental science but chemisty, physics, and other programs as well.

Impact the Agency Has Made on the Community

This agency has had a major impact on the community by cleaning up the Wilson Bay and New River as well as by providing educational opportunities for ambitious students. Specifically, the agency has farmed filter feeding fish and populated the local wetlands with them in order to clean up and purify the water.

Duties You Will Perform as a Volunteer

• Educator: creating your own program to teach groups of students about the environment as well as teachign about other branches of science
• Travel to other schools to help teach about environmental volunteerism
