Presentations

Your Summer Service Presentation is a time for you to showcase the work you and your agency have done over the summer. Be creative!  If you are having trouble thinking of what to present, feel free to answer the following questions in your presentation:

  • What agency did you volunteer with for your summer service?
  • Why did you choose this particular agency?
  • Did you have any preconceived notions about your agency? If so, were they confirmed this summer?
  • What were your duties and responsibilities?
  • What are the demographics of the community that your agency served?
  • How did your service impact the community your agency serves? How did it impact your agency?
  • Experience gained?
  • Any lessons learned?
  • Fun/ Interesting stories?

Students are required to use PowerPoint or posters for their presentation. The use of any other props must be approved. Presentations should be between 5-7 minutes. Come prepared to present what you did, accomplished and discovered during the summer.  The presentations will be open to the entire campus community. This is both an opportunity for students to showcase their hard work and to give the incoming juniors a variety of ideas for their own Summer Service project.

All students must participate in poster presentations to receive a passing grade for their Summer Service.

Tips On What Not To Do:

  • Do not create your presentation in front of the audience.
  • Do not come unprepared.
  • Try not to speed through your presentation. Pace Yourself.
  • If you are using PowerPoint, do not read from the slide verbatim. It shows a lack of knowledge on the subject you are presenting.
  • Do not sleep, or use your laptop for recreational use (AIM, facebook, email, or other assigned work, etc) while others are presenting. That shows a lack of respect for yourself and the others presenting.
  • Do not leave after your presentation. You should plan to stay until the last presentation. If you need to leave early, talk to your evaluator before presentations begin.
