Mission Statement:

To rehabilitate and release the hundreds of animals admitted to our clinic each year, and to teach fellow North Carolinians how to happily and peacefully coexist with wildlife.

Agency’s Goals and Programs:

The shelter offers a free service providing wildlife education on a daily basis assisting the public in all aspects of wildlife topics.

Agency Impact on Community:

OBWS is the only full service wildlife rescue, rehab center, and clinic in Carteret County for native birds, mammals, and reptiles.

Volunteer Duties:

  • Preparing food for and feeding various avian species
  • Assisting staff with various animal husbanding duties
  • Assisting with habitat set-ups
  • Cleaning animal cages
