Agency’s Mission Statement
The Handy Capable Network promotes self-sufficiency and enriches the lives of people with disabilities or people who are otherwise socially and economically challenged by providing training in and access to computer technology.
Agency’s Goals and Programs offered to Clients/People Served
Their goal is to place “a mouse in every house” through grant distribution of computers and through our referral program for computers. They also want to provide enrichment to the lives of persons with physical and mental challenges in a program that teaches computer refurbishing. The agency serves people in the Triad all ages and adults with mental and physical disabilities.
Agency’s Impact on the Community
Just last year, 221 computers were placed in the homes of 7th graders at a local middle school – the number of people served by these computers was 894, a huge impact. A total of over 500 computers were distributed in 2008. Nine volunteers with various disabilities are learning to refurbish computers; two have found employment at HCN.
