Agency’s Mission Statement:

“We are a grassroots community based organization dedicated to strengthening the Latino community and improving the quality of life of Latino residents in Durham, North Carolina and the surrounding areas. ECH accomplishes its mission through education, community support, leadership development, community organization, and by establishing alliances with other communities and organizations.”

Agency’s goals and programs offered to clients/people served:

They offer ESL programs to teach English to Latinos and other adult education programs. They also offer help to mothers and parents in general. They have a youth support group to improve school life and prevent crime. They have a variety of health programs to meet the needs of parents who need help to support their families. They spread culture and have additional community organizations to help even more people.

Impact agency has made on community:

This agency has been awarded the Durham peace prize. They have helped with Latinos paying taxes, learning English, and supporting children in and out of school. They work with UNC and Duke centers for documentary studies and other organizations to promote better living. Their programs are also used by more than just Latinos, including the general public.

Volunteer Duties:

• Act as an assistant teacher in ESL classes

• Help with summer camp
• Act as an interpreter
